Easter Sunday!

Today is the day!!!

I'm at school finishing up my newest piece so in just a few hours I can hang it up. I can't believe it.

To honor Easter and the install, as well as remembering the past and where I came from, here is an egg made by a family member at my Grandparents' house years ago. Happy Sunday!

Show Card!

They are coming! The show is coming! It's starting to happen! It is all starting to end, but also begin!

Moving Around

On Tuesday I took new photos of all my work up until that day. Yahooo! It will be time to update my website this weekend (all new with smaller images so it will load faster!)

Moving my paintings to photograph meant it was time to reorganize my studio. Look at those white walls and piles of paintings below! After further organization, I have freshly arranged walls. As per my studio system, one is full of inspiration, one is covered by works in progress and the other has the pieces I am considering for my senior show in a week and a half.

Also featured below, a more humorous view of my studio. The little wall edge that houses some goofy photos as well as my studio label.

Baby Panels

As can be seen in the photo below, I got new panels and it is hard to talk about them without squealing or talking in "baby talk." They are 3 inches by 5 inches and 4 inches by 6 inches. They are small and fit in one hand. I left the DVD in the image for a size comparison. I fit over 15 of them in one tote bag. It's a little crazy!

I totally love them and and am adjusting with only a slight awkwardness to working at this size.

What can also be seen in the photo below is a preview of the fact that I am beginning to include portraits in my work once again (a shoutout for all the family and friends who supported this decision!) There are one or two other pieces with people in the works, to be revealed later. Yeeeehaw!

Sharing the Love

In honor of my recent internet debut, I am following in The Jealous Curator's footsteps and dedicating a post (and definitely some future ones) to some inspiration:

It appears in the form of a grad student at my school, with whom I was paired with for a show that matched an undergrad with a grad student to have a conversation based on our work. She is sweet and fun and her work rocks! Not only is it beautifully, technically executed, but I admire the fact that she lets it stem and grow from such a personal space.

We met, and we chatted, and in just a short while of looking at her stuff, it was obvious why we were paired. She inspired a desire in me to go forward and do what I wanted to do, rather than what people were offhandedly telling me to do.

Here is her website: http://leahthomasonbromberg.com/

And here is a picture of our work at the show mentioned above:

Fifteen Minutes

Today, I woke up to some weird internet activity. AKA some people were emailing me and I had some odd likes and requests on Facebook. My day continued to get weirder when someone I know texted me that their art teacher had pinned my artwork on their class board on Pintrest. Turns out, I got some really kind publicity by being featured on The Jealous Curator's blog (http://www.thejealouscurator.com/blog/). I feel so honored and complimented that such a charismatic, humorous woman posted such wonderful things about my artwork!

You can check out my specific post here: http://www.thejealouscurator.com/blog/2014/03/14/lucia-dill/

or check out her whole website, I was poking around on it the other day and I totally loved it! It is so positive, fun, and beautiful. It was a wonderful reminder for me that there is so much kindness and enjoyment out there, when I have had a head full of questioning and critiquing lately.

Overcast Morning

Here is a studio shot from a few weeks ago of some newer work. It's black and white to go with the clouds that are covering the sky today! I am busy experimenting now since I came a fork in the road (with more than two choices!) with my work. It has been pretty darn fun.

Fall 2013

This is one of my favorite images from last semester taken by a classmate. I have been enjoying taking pictures of chairs in front of my chairs. This one is from after a critique, so of course, it's all about that intense, meta painting world. I'm kidding, but it's a great image.

PS the paintings in the back are by a friend of mine, you can see her stuff at http://cargocollective.com/sophielourdesknight
